CALOR FOR BUSINESS

Gas Storage Options & Which Gas Should You Use?

Calor gas can be supplied to you via a bulk tank or via a range of cylinder sizes.

The decision as to which to install at your premises will depend on the application for the gas, gas usage and location.

There are 2 types of gas which Calor supply, Calor butane and Calor propane.

Essentially, Calor butane comes in our Calor 11.34kg cylinders. They should be used only when they are being stored indoors. This is due to the fact that butane only vaporises at 0 degrees celsius, i.e. at any temperature below 0 degrees the gas is liquid and will not function as a gas.

Calor propane comes in a range of storage options e.g. Calor propane is the gas which is stored in a Calor bulk tank, in large red Calor 34kg cylinders and in large green Calor 47kg cylinders and also in our grey Calor 11.34kg Patio gas cylinders. Calor propane is stored outdoors, it vaporises at -42 degrees celsius, and therefore functions perfectly at any temperature above this.

Do I get a bulk tank installed or which gas cylinder should I use?

Below is a Guide for Domestic Customers, as to which Calor gas storage option (i.e. bulk tank or relevant cylinder size), you should use depending on the application.

Calor central heating

If you install Calor central heating, you will most likely have a bulk tank installed at your home.

If there is no appropriate site for the tank then Calor can supply 4 large cylinders, which would be connected to your central heating system.

If you have Calor central heating and you also have a gas fire and a gas cooker installed, they will run off the same supply.

Calor gas fire

If you have a gas fire but you do not have Calor gas central heating, your supply will operate via a twin pack cylinder supply i.e. 2 red 34kg cylinders.

Calor gas fuelled cooker/hob

If you have a gas cooker or a gas hob but you do not have Calor central heating, you supply will operate via either an 11.34kg yellow cylinder or via a twin pack cylinder supply as described above.
