Outdoor Heating

OUTDOOR HEATING – TOP TIPS FROM CALOR

1. Be effective

Heating an outdoor area is a difficult task. It is generally accepted that Gas heaters are the best equipped for this because they generate more effective heat. Thus, you will actually need to install fewer heaters to provide a comfortable outdoor environment for your customers.

2. Get advice

There are a number of different gas heaters on the market and they come with a range of different outputs, making them suitable for nearly every patio area.  Talk to your Calor representative when planning your outdoor area so that you can choose the most suitable model for your particular needs.  They will also be able to advise you on important matters such as overhead clearance for your heaters and safe installation of your new system.

3. Look for indoor control

For greater convenience and economy, choose a heating system that can be controlled from inside your premises – many of today’s heaters can be controlled remotely and you can also choose sensor activated heaters that will operate when someone enters the smoking area.

4. Be safe

From a customer safety point of view, consider installing heaters that can be secured to the ground, the wall or overhead. Again, there are a number of different heater types available and you can choose a suitable option for your own particular set-up.

5. Plan carefully

Carefully plan your smoking area. If you are starting from scratch and building a new area think about the layout and structure and consider which heaters would be most suitable for your premises.

6. Do your homework

When thinking about what heaters to buy take the time to look around and visit some pubs that already have them in operation. This will give you a good impression of how they work and allow you to see if they will be suitable for your own premises.

7. Consider space available

Even if you are not planning a large smoking area there are gas heaters available that are ideal for smaller areas. And these models can also be fixed to the wall or overhead

8. Investigate storage options

With gas heating options, there are also different gas storage options including small and large cylinders and bulk tanks. Your Calor representative will be able to advise you on the best choice for your business.

9. Get a site survey

Take advantage of the free site survey being offered by Calor and avail of the best advice on the market when it comes to outdoor heating.

10. Be mobile

Don’t forget that even if you don’t install fixed heaters Calor still offers a fantastic range of Mobile patio heaters – ideal if you want to be able to move your heater around.  If you are using a mobile patio heater you should always use propane gas which is available in Calor’s grey patio gas cylinder. Propane is for outdoor use and Butane (yellow cylinder) for indoor, this is due to the different vaporisation points of the two gases.  In the case of cylinder gas, butane only vaporises at 0 degrees celsius, i.e. at any temperature below 0 degrees the gas is liquid and will not function as a gas. Propane, on the other hand, vaporises at any temperature above -42ºc.
